Now you’re probably asking why this site is so different, why you should listen to ME instead of some other “expert”. Well, that is THE most important question of them all because if you don’t believe that MuscleDiet.net can give you the best diet advice available anywhere, , then go to some “celebrity trainer” site or one run by an overweight doctor or some “expert” who eats steroids like candy and claims it’s his diet that makes him lean and muscular. So...no pressure...here are my three reasons:

These reasons all have to do with the word “expert”. Tons of people call themselves gurus, professionals, and experts but what actually makes a true expert? Well, if you check the usual on-line dictionaries, they’ll use words like knowledge, skill, training and experience in a particular field, developed through practice and education.

What makes someone an “Expert”?

Well, just to make an important point, let’s just look at that last one – education (which is a type of training). You may be shocked to know that only a tiny handful of the most popular diet books in the last 20 years were written by someone with a legitimate degree in nutrition! The vast majority of very successful diet books were written by doctors, other scientists, people with very shaky academic credentials or celebrities.

Astonishing!?!?

Think about that - That’s astonishing! So most people are getting their diet information from authors with very little or no formal training in diet or nutrition! If I went around, saying I was a doctor and giving medical advice, I’d probably end up in jail! But when it comes to nutrition advice – which requires the study of organic chemistry, biology, statistics, research methods, physiology, and over 20 different specific food and nutrition courses – we don’t insist that practitioners have a proper knowledge of the fundamentals – NO WONDER THERE’S AN OBESITY EPIDEMIC!

This is especially scary when the single most important determinant of the size of your waistline and the size of your muscles is diet. Let me make something totally clear, if you think you can get a great body just by exercising hard, without getting your nutrition right, then you may as well sit by the fireplace on December 25th and wait for Santa Clause to show up because you can’t “out-exercise” a bad diet!

Diet is also a major determinant of your long-term health, especially the biggest killers - heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes and osteoporosis. By the way, all of my diet advice takes these health issues into account!

So what DOES make someone an expert?

Reason Number 1: Education & Training

So that’s reason number one why you should listen to me – I have a full, four-year University degree in nutrition. Prior to that, I also studied exercise science. So as far as I’m concerned, most of these clowns out there giving diet and supplement advice have a pretty steep hill to climb before they can call themselves experts! But degrees and training only give you the foundation of knowledge…the essential tools to build yourself into a wise and competent expert. As the definition states, you also need knowledge, skill, experience and practice.

Reason Number 2: Knowledge and Experience…

I’ve studied and worked in sports nutrition, pharmaceuticals and clinical nutrition for almost 20 years and I’ve read and re-read the minutia of thousands of scientific papers that would bore the socks off most coaches and “wannabe” experts (that’s not a boast, that’s just a sad admission about my geeky tendencies). Companies I’ve worked for include some of the world’s biggest in sports supplements, pharmaceuticals and clinical nutrition, including MuscleTech, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), AstraZeneca and Nutricia. I’ve conducted training and seminars in Canada, the USA, England, Scotland and Europe, worked with several professional bodybuilders and athletes, the Canadian Armed Forces, have had my work published in all of the major bodybuilding magazines, helped research, develop, market and patent several multi-million-dollar-selling sports supplements and even worked as an expert witness for the police and the courts on matters of nutritional supplements and performance-enhancing drugs. I’ve also worked with clinical dieticians in hospitals. So if there is a fact or a theory about how nutrition (or anything else) can improve your performance, transform your body or improve your health, I probably know all about it!

Reason Number 3: Skill and Practice...

My skill is getting people lean and muscular – whether you want the lean toned look, better sports performance or massive muscles – I can get you there and I know all the tricks to give you the edge and make the process as quick and painless as possible. I’ve worked with several professional bodybuilders and athletes and these are people who don’t get a paycheque unless they are stronger and leaner than the competition – so if I can help these elite physical specimens achieve their goals, I can certainly help you achieve yours!

I “Practice” what I preach...

Furthermore, I believe as an expert, I should “practice” what I preach. So on several occasions, I have dieted down to about 5% body fat. Not because I think it’s cool – in fact, I don’t think I look good that lean, my eyes are bulging out and you can practically see my cheekbones through my skin – but I believe it is impossible to have a full understanding of the challenges involved in the process of getting ultra lean without actually doing it!

Now, I’m not a bodybuilder. That’s pretty obvious - compared to a professional bodybuilder, I look like I could qualify for the women’s anorexic marathon team. Don’t get me wrong, I like being strong and having some muscle but I’m more interested in being fit. In fact, every summer, I compete in Britain’s Biggest Cross-Training Competition called the FitBrit, in which competitors alternate between lifting weights and doing high-intensity cardio, back-to-back, against the clock. Last year I came in 19th in the country - out of over 3000 entrants (not bad for 42 years old!). One of the main reasons I performed so well in the FitBrit is that I wasn’t carrying any extra body fat and the main reason for that was my diet!

You see, I work 60 hours a week, spend 20 hours a week doing stuff with my kids and have the usual household chores, so I get a maximum of three hours of exercise per week. That’s not even ½ hour per day! So I have to rely on my diet to get ultra lean and perform at a high level. So what I’m saying is that I can teach you how to get lean, fit and strong, despite having a very full schedule.

But even if I were able to do more exercise, I’d still have to watch my diet because studies show that diet is far more effective than exercise for burning fat and getting lean. Diet is also the most common thing that holds back muscle gains in people who lift weights. Without the right type and amount of calories, it doesn’t matter how good your training is, you won’t build muscle effectively!
